4th Grade

Children involved in L.I.F.E. programs will be introduced to life in the Catholic Church and be encouraged to grow in four areas.  They consist of Prayer, Scripture, Catholic Social Teaching, and Liturgy.  Below, these tasks are broken down to reflect how 4th graders will address each of the areas.

General Focus

God calls us to lead a moral life.  He revealed the Ten Commandments to provide us with the parameters to live a life for God and others.  Jesus taught us the Beatitudes and their relationship to living a Christian life.  We give special attention to Sacraments of Healing and Sacraments of Service of Communion as part of the moral dimension of our faith.

Prayer

  • Apostle’s Creed
  • Hail, Holy Queen
  • Act of Contrition

Scripture

Children will continue to listen to how God speaks to us through the stories of the Bible.  Areas of focus will include:

  • Ten Commandments
  • Sermon on the Mount
  • Corporal Works of Mercy
  • Spiritual Works of Mercy

Catholic Social Teaching

Primary focus will continue to be placed on exploring their role in their families, communities, and Church.  Children will learn more about what it means to be brothers and sisters in the Church and what we can do to take care of each other.

Liturgy

The overarching theme of the Mass and sacraments continue to be taught.  Areas of focus will include:

  • Universal Church
  • Precepts of the Church
  • Anointing of the Sick
  • Sacraments of Service

Mass Notes

New this year, Mass Notes are a tool to help children focus on Mass while answering questions as well as asking a few of their own.  These forms can be picked up and returned in the coat room.

Children in 4th grade will need to complete a minimum of 18 Mass notes during the year.

L.I.F.E - What is Whole Community Catechesis?

What is Whole Community Catechesis?

Whole Community Catechesis is a term that includes all of the components of the vision and mission of the formation process here at St. Michael's Parish. This process begins at birth and ends with death. The main objective is to bring all that participate into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.

This is accomplished through prayer and worship opportunities, interaction with others (both peer and intergenerational opportunities), awakening the awareness of the need to reach out beyond oneself and immediate community and instruction in the basic teachings of the Catholic faith, which flow, from Scripture and Traditions.
