8th Graders involved in LIFE will focus on Celebrating the Church. By examining the things around them, students will understand that God is always present and the best way to encounter him is through the Church.
General Focus:
Overall the theme for Eighth grade is to Celebrate the Church we are a part of. This will happen by looking more closely at the stories of creation, along with many stories from the New Testament. By starting with looking at God’s revelation and then moving to understand our hope in Jesus will allow us to proclaim him and chose to live a life in Christ.
Prayer
Students will learn different ways to pray, along with reviewing key prayers essential to the faith. These experiences include:
- The Lords prayer
- The Psalms
- Traditional prayers
- Veneration of the Cross
- baptismal promises
- Litany of the Blessed Sacrament
- Blessing and Adoration
- Sacred art and prayer
- Domestic Church
- Prayer of intercession
Scripture
Students will learn how God reveals himself through everything that we have. Jesus is the ultimate revelation of God. By studying the Gospels and letters from the New Testament students will see how Jesus founded the Church and how it has grown and formed throughout the ages.
Catholic Social Teaching
Each chapter focuses on a different theme of Catholic Social teaching. Students will go more in-depth and learn practical applications of caring for God’s creation, the Life and Dignity of the Human Person, Solidarity, Rights and Responsibilities, Rights for Workers, Family and Community, and the Option for the Poor and Vulnerable.
Liturgy
The theme for the whole year is taught. Overall, there are separate themes for Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, Easter and Ascension, Pentecost, and All Saints and All Souls Day. The students will also study the sacraments more deeply.

L.I.F.E - What is Whole Community Catechesis?
What is Whole Community Catechesis?
Whole Community Catechesis is a term that includes all of the components of the vision and mission of the formation process here at St. Michael's Parish. This process begins at birth and ends with death. The main objective is to bring all that participate into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.
This is accomplished through prayer and worship opportunities, interaction with others (both peer and intergenerational opportunities), awakening the awareness of the need to reach out beyond oneself and immediate community and instruction in the basic teachings of the Catholic faith, which flow, from Scripture and Traditions.
